Visiting Grandmom
I have grown up with my grandmother after my parents died in a car crash. I have had her support ever since, and she was both my mother and father. I owe it to her for having raised me well and it is for this reason why I would need to regularly visit her in the home. Given that my schedule requires frequent travels within the country and sometimes even abroad, I had no choice but to let the professionals take care of her.
For her last birthday, I got her an aluminum lightweight walker for her to move about without problems. The last walker was still okay and durable, but it was difficult for her to handle as this was quite heavy. My grandmother deserves the very best that I can give her. After all, she was the only person I have when my parents had left me by myself. This is the least I can do for a person who has sacrificed so much for me.
Assisted Living
My grandmother was recently advised by her doctor to think about senior housing. She refuses to live with us, and would much rather stay in her home. After she slipped in the bathroom however, she had to stay in bed for months before she can fully recover. It would require a professional to tend to her needs on a daily basis. This way, she would be able to go on with her life and have a person be with her at all times.
Assisted living is the solution to her problem. She had no choice and decided to make a go for it. I believe she got quite scared after the traumatizing accident she had in her home. It was probably because she realized how weak and frail she has become. These days, she is having a grand time and is planning to sell her house entirely to live in her new home full time.
Laundry Works
Doing the laundry is particularly irritating when there are people in your home suffering from incontinence. This can be a daunting and laborious task especially when you would need to deal with a number of clothes all at the same time. Not only that, it can be quite unhygienic having to handle all the clothes which have been soiled by our loved one.
There are available solutions to help you deal with this problem and minimize the handling of these concerns. One can opt to purchase Prevail disposable underwear in order for you to simply dispose of the item when it has been soiled. This is pretty convenient for you and lessens the need to process dirty laundry. Since dealing with the elderly can already be handful, you would need a lot of solutions to make things easier for you.
Elderly Home
Working as a nurse in the elderly home can be quite a challenge. After taking care of my grandmother ever since I was a teenager, I realized how important it is to show some compassion to these individuals. I have grown quite a bit of sympathy for those who used to be active and well, and over a matter of years are now unable to do things by themselves. This made me realize that this was what I wanted to do for the rest of my life.
My work is serious business, as I would need to take care of a number of people at a time. And compared to other jobs, lives are at stake when I make mistakes. On a daily basis aside from feeding and bathing the elderly, we also conduct various exercises to stimulate the brain. This is particularly helpful to prevent memory loss and to improve brain functioning of the people we take care of. This way, they would be able to have fond memories still of their youth and live happy during the later phase of their life.
Death Bed
It can be quite difficult for a family to deal with the illness and impending death of a family member. It can be quite disheartening to slowly see the patient lose his strength and his ability to do things normally. We all would not want to see other people most especially our loved ones to suffer. But this is the fact of life which we need to accept. We all would have to face death head on and deal with the pain associated with it.
It is always important to have a professional home care nurse to personally attend to the needs of your loved ones suffering from sickness or illness. The last thing you can do for them is to provide them with all the support you could give them on their death bed. It is a must to ensure that they are comfortable and supported in this stage of their life. This provides them the assurance that no matter what suffering may come, you are always there to provide your love and support to your loved one.
True Love
My dad suffered from a heart attack last year and now he is semi paralyzed. Semi only because it’s only from the hips downwards. This is really sad because he used to be a very lively guy. He is always fun to be with and he loved going outdoors. But thankfully, my mom is a very devoted wife and she doesn’t want to put our dad in a nursing home because she can still take care of him.
They both live with their pension and my siblings and I give them money every month to help with their expenses. We also hired a part-time caregiver to help my mom take care of our dad. I also bought a bed pan so that my mom and dad won’t need to wake up whenever my dad needs to go to the restroom at night. I am very happy that my parents are still together and they are still taking care of each other. I think that’s why true love is.
Unhealthy Lifestyle
Obesity is something suffered by many of us, given the unhealthy lifestyle we all live. We cannot help but lead away from living a healthy life, what with the numerous fast food chains all over and the conveniences provided to us which no longer requires us to move a lot. This is the reason why most of us are suffering from obesity and the diseases associated with us. There have been thousands of fatalities due to this condition, and it should more than ever be taken seriously.
There are those of us who find it too challenging to lose weight and maintain healthier lives. Unfortunately, the excess weight can be a hindrance to these individuals even when performing day to day tasks. In order to go about their tasks, they would need to have someone else assist them or invest in equipment to help them out on their way to solving their problems. A bariatric shower chair is one piece of equipment which helps these individuals from taking a bath conveniently. Along with other bariatric equipment, this allows these individuals from the difficulty they experience on a daily basis.
Quality of Care
Elder abuse is a general term that is used to describe certain types of harm to older adults. Other terms that are commonly used are “adult abuse“, “elder mistreatment”, “senior abuse”, “abuse in later life”, and “abuse of older adults”, among others. Abuse may include any form of neglect, abandonment, sexual abuse, or any other situation that causes harm to an individual, regardless of age. Statistics will show that elder abuse is committed most often by family members.
Just like children, the elderly are often very vulnerable. Medical conditions that render patients incapable of fully caring for themselves, and impaired decision making and communication, place our seniors at risk for elder abuse. Dementia, for example, can be very frustrating for caregivers, sometimes causing them to lash out and inflict harm on their elderly patients. A history of domestic elder abuse can also worsen as the victim ages and becomes even more defenseless.
Urinary Management Devices
In medicine, a catheter is a tube that can be inserted into a body cavity, duct, or vessel. Catheters allow drainage, administration of fluids or gases, or access by surgical instruments. In this context, there are many alternatives to a catheter that can be chosen by a patient or by family members of that patient. The process of inserting a catheter is known as catheterization. In most uses, a catheter is a thin, flexible tube, although in some uses, it is a larger, solid catheter.
A urinary catheter is primarily used to drain urine from the bladder. In most cases, it is inserted through the urethra and drains urine into an external bag. This type of catheter is commonly used with people who have urinary dysfunction problems, such as urinary retention or urinary incontinence. A urinary catheter is also used during long medical procedures as well as surgeries. Urinary catheters may also be used for other medical conditions that disrupt bladder control, such as dementia or spinal cord injuries.
Close to Home
Nursing homes are residential care facilities that cater to the medical needs of patients. It can be considered as a midway point for those that have medical conditions severe enough that they require nursing expertise but whose conditions are stable enough that they do not require hospitalization. The nursing home quality of life offers a home-like atmosphere that is as comfortable, informal, and pleasant as possible. Nursing homes can provide both long-term and short-term care as well as inpatient and outpatient treatment.
Because caring for our loved ones can be strenuous and emotionally challenging, nursing homes often offer respite programs where the patient temporarily stays in the facility to relieve the pressure on the caregiver. For families that choose to care for their loved ones at home but cannot be there full-time because of obligations such as work, adult daycare is also available. Adult daycare does not only offer care during the day but also improves the quality of life for most patients by providing recreation, socialization, as well as stimulation.
